The SCAT project brings together 10 world-leading research institutions, in 6 countries. The partners are in the European Union and Latin America.

University of Bristol

We are a world-leader in mathematics research, and one of the top three mathematics departments in the UK. The department hosts the Laboratory for Advanced Computation in the Mathematical Sciences, serving the needs for large-scale simulation across the University.

Daresbury Laboratory

The Computational Science and Engineering Dept. provides expertise and support for the theoretical and computational science communities. It develops and applies powerful simulation codes, in collaboration with universities, and hosts the HPCx National High Performance Computing Service.

Since 1882, the École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de Paris has attracted some of the most creative scientific minds, including Pierre and Marie Curie. Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI)

UPMC is one of the largest universities teaching science and medicine in France, and Europe, with 180 laboratories, and some 30000 students including 8000 in postgraduate studies. It is located in the Latin Quarter in Paris.
SCAT member: Laboratoire de Modélisation en Mécanique.

IRPHE

In Marseille, the Institut de Recherche sur les Phénomènes hors Equilibre is run under the joint authority of the CNRS and the universities Aix-Marseille I and II. Its scope is the modelling of complex macroscopic systems through their experimental, analytical and numerical aspects.

Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)

UPC's origins go back to the 19th century. Recently, the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, the Generalitat de Catalunya and UPC created the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, housing the fastest computer in Europe and 8th in the world (Nov. 2005 top500). SCAT partners are in the Heat and Mass Transfer Technological Centre. SCAT interlocutor: Dr. Carlos Pérez-Segarra.

Chile

Universidad de Chile

The founding of the University of Chile in 1842 was one of the most important events for the identity of the nascent republic. Today, about half of all the research in the country is carried out here, where student numbers are about 20000.
SCAT members are affiliated to the Department of Physics.

Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María

Located on one of the hills of Valparaíso, with breathtaking views of the bay, Universidad Santa María is one of the most important universities of Chile. SCAT members are affiliated to the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Informatics.

Mexico

Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM)

The history of UNAM dates back to the mid-16th century. Today, UNAM performs more than half of the research of the country, and student numbers reach 170,000. SCAT members: Instituto de Investigación en Matemáticas Aplicadas y Sistemas, Instituto de Geofísica, and Facultad de Estudios Superiores Cuautitlán.

Brazil

Instituto Nacional de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA)

IMPA, in Rio de Janeiro, was created in 1952 as a national institute. Today, its mission extends all over Latin America, promoting advanced scientific research in mathematics and its applications.
