SCAT Apple Prize Announced
January 2007
An obviously happy Felipe Cruz
received his MacBook in Bristol.
Valparaíso— During the fourth SCAT meeting (first in Latin America), held at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, the winner for the SCAT Apple Prize was selected.
He receives a brand new MacBook with Intel Core Duo from Apple Computer, Inc., courtesy of Dr Massimo Marino of European Research and Scientific Programs, Apple EMEA. This fabulous support from Apple to the SCAT grantees was announced in the Daresbury meeting, where Apple was a sponsor.
The decision was hard, because all entries were very worthy indeed, and each applicant had particular strenghts. In the end, after discussing criteria and opinions among the twelve members present, a blind vote was carried out.
The winner is Felipe Cruz, an MSc student in computer science (locally called Ingeniería Civil Informática) at Universidad Santa María. He is currently doing his mobility at University of Bristol, supervised by Dr Lorena Barba. Learn more about what Felipe is doing by browsing his winning entry, reproduced below.
The entry by Felipe Cruz to the Apple Prize
Felipe describes his research project, what he plans to do after his mobility grant, and why he was eager to "make the change" to Mac.
